OK, I went to my twitter apps screen which I had created before and selected one to use then I typed in the account name and made up a password as you will see here. I've done nothing other than described in the training.

ok, in this video we can see 4 different TWITTER API APPS.
These are what your twitter accounts in twitterdub have to AUTHORISE to, in order to access Twitter via the API.
At 13 seconds, you enter the TIM WOODEN API APP
I can see the callback url is "
http://placeholder.com"
You then go to Twitter dub and try to add an account "tim wooden" - you have not entered any API KEYS so the program says it can do it for you, but this fails as your twitter details are wrong.
I think this is where the confusion is. "tim wooden" is not your twitter account. That is not a valid twitter username.
https://twitter.com/<username>
your twitter handle is
not
https://twitter.com/tim wooden
as that is not valid (contains a space)
I think you are entering the name of your twitter api app. Which is wrong.
You have your twitter account.
Where the username is <username>
https://twitter.com/<username>
This TWITTER ACCOUNT must then AUTHORISE to the TWITTER API APP.
So let's assume you want to use the TIM WOODEN api app.
It is probably easiest to use the WALK THROUGH.
open TWITTERDUB
click TOOLS > WALK THROUGH
You will want to click ENTER CLIENT API MANUALLY
so log into apps.twitter.com
click tim wooden
click KEYS AND ACCESS TOKENS
You need to get the CLIENT CONSUMER KEY and SECRET and CALLBACK URL
Paste these into Twitterdub
click OK
A new window will appear,
enter your TWITTER DETAILS
username / password (where username is
https://twitter.com/<username>
just the <username> bit.
Then if you have entered everything correctly, the program can log into twitter with your account.
Now I know the above is a bit complicated, but that is because you are using a manually created API keys.
If you don't mind the program creating the keys for you, you just need to enter username , password. Let TD create the API APP and authorise to it all automatically.
From the WALK THROUGH form, click ATTEMPT AUTO CREATE CLIENT APPLICATION SETUP
Enter the username, password (leave the other boxes empty)
click OK
and you should be done.
Then I thought maybe these accounts need to be created on the twitter website first, I don't know.
yes, you must have twitter accounts to use
The previous account I had only created on apps.twitter.com but not the actual twitter website.
This is the misunderstand, that is NOT an account. It is not a twitter account .It is a name for an API APP. Your actual twitter accounts will need to authorise to this API APP in order to access twitter
So I used an existing account as seen here.
https://youtu.be/-3362IL2Oh0
I got the same error message so I tried to do it manually and copied and pasted the API key into the consumer key field (assuming they're the same) but did not know where to find the consumer secret so I stopped.
what you are doing here, is adding your twitter account (correctly). But you are not telling it what API APP to authorise too, so the program detects you have no provided the API APP keys, so asks it you want it to create a new API APP. This then failed. I would need to see your logs to know why.
Are you up to date? As twitter has been changing things recently which broke some functionality. Updates were put out which fixes this, but you would have needed to update to them.

If you want, it may just be easier for me to log into your machine and set this up for you. It should only take 1-2 minutes. If you want to go ahead with this, do you use teamviewer or any other remove access softwares? If you do, write to me on:
and we can organise a time to do it. If you don't want to this route (I fully understand) and I can keep helping until we get it sorted
