Account creation incorrectly using "suggested"

When I go to create accounts using my own set of desired usernames, the browser opens as it should. It proceeds to enter the correct email, and then briefly enters one of my desired names. When I watch the process log, it says that the name is taken ( it is not really). This also happens when I choose random username. It proceeds to sign up using Tumblr's "suggested" names.

The thing is, TJ thinks that it all went down successfully, and saves the entry with the unused name (the one I originally wanted, or the random one if "use random" was checked.) This happens even if I have "Use Suggested if in Use" checked inside TJ. In reality, the name is the stupid Tumblr suggested one. As you can imagine this causes multiple issues for other processes.

The auto sign up feature is the most important to me, I really hope there is a simple fix!!

What happens if you do NOT select use suggested names?

I tried that, same thing. I thought maybe I could go with random usernames, then use the update accounts module to change them, but couldnt do that either. I believe I've tried everything and as of now.. I can only get manually created accts to work.

I tried all kinds of captchas, but still got about one legit account per year and dozens of spambots weekly. So now I only create accounts manually - just send an email from the address youd like to register with, as it says.
