custom search field missing

newbie to software. In the tutorials online, the custom search window has a place to put search terms. in the version I just downloaded/unlocked, that field is missing - hence I can't do any custom searches.

Am I doing something wrong? Are there previous versions of the software I can download from somewhere that don't have this issue?

The text box on the main window is your custom search field.

As ron put above, the main tab will have a box for the search. The custom search box "used" to have a search box, but it was a duplication and not needed.
