Multiple messages sent to same follower

I've noticed that when using the "Watch for new followers" module each new follower receives multiple messages usually 2-3 instead of just 1 when following my account. I'm using v3.0.4.4 but this happened with v2 as well lately before updating to v3.
Any ideas why this is happening and how to fix it as i'm afraid i'm going to be flagged for spam cause of this..

Not sure why it happens (yet) but this update should hopefully fix it
