Can't seem to get the URL random shorteners to work :c

Post by TwitterNub »

Hey man, Sorry to bother. I am looking to throw in some official picture tweets now. I was having a few issues with it, but am working out the kinks.

Right now my main issue is that I can't seem to get the Bitly or Googl shortener to work.

For Bitly, I created an account and went to the advanced settings where it says API. Now to enter in the info I am a bit confused. It says "Bit.ly API username", and "Bitly API password". I get the username, it's listed under the API settings but the password is where I am stuck, there seems to be three options, all of which I've tried to no avail. First would be the actual password to my Bit.ly account, second would be the API key itself, and the 3rd would be if I go to OAuth and enter in a password and have it spit out an excrypted version for me to use. All three of these didn't seem to work as I continue to get this error:

* ERROR: BITLY: Unable to extract "errorCode"
*** Please check your BitLy API details as entered to the settings tab, ensure the details are correct and the account is working and valid ***
* ERROR: TwitterErrorLog: Unable to extract "errorCode"
* FAILED: 2900544414 to MsBabyBadAss
Cancelled

For Goo.gl I noticed in the other thread that you said it has changed. I went ahead and tried it anyways by setting up a server API and adding all my proxy IP's as well as my home IP to the list of autenticated addresses. I then entered in the API key it spit out, this also did not work. I'm guessing since they changed up the model Bit.ly is my best shot. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

goo.gl does not work and is removed from the program (testing version, this will become stable version shortly)

As to bit.ly, it should work.

https://bitly.com/a/your_api_key

go there and get your details. This is the old way of working with bitly, as they want to push things to OAUTH, which is more of a hassle, but the old way is working for now

What password do I use though, is it my actual account password or the "API key"? No matter what I seem to put in there it doesn't want to work for me.

Submitted logs for you: 29746

Here's screenies: The ones listed with "(api key)" are the screenshots of the time I tried to enter the API key given from Bitly into the "Password" slot on Twitterdub. The other links listed with "(password)" are the screenshots of when I input my Bitly account password into the bitly API password slot on Twitterdub

Let me know what I'm doing wrong, I'd be greatly appreciative. Have a nice day man!

PS - when I went to the link "https://bitly.com/a/your_api_key" it took me to this page Bit.ly home page and didn't display any information in regards to API keys, I had to go to "Advanced settings" then "API" and then this page was reached: http://imgur.com/yui7UjG (the same as above)

Ah ok, It ended up working after a day. For anyone else that is having this problem you have to go to Bit.ly and create an account. Then go to the settings tab then to advanced settings. from there you click API support and create an API. No Autho, just the normal stuff. Once you get an API key, use that as your password, not your Bit.ly account password.

If it doesn't right away, it will in a day or so.
