New Export Groups Function

Post by micha69 »

Hello Rootjazz,

first let me say a big thank U that you have implemented my most wanted feature!
Thats excactly how I could use it. Wrote could cause atm it exports only the headlines
Name,Description,URL,#Users,#Tracks,Moderated....nothing else except 600 empty lines....
but I'm shure this is only a minor problem,
can't wait for the next update :)

...made some more testing and it seems it makes as many empty lines as search entries.
Tried techno and get ~ 1600 empty lines.

oops, 600 empty lines isn't very useful. Loading up the code now. Will confirm and update shortly.

Rootjazz, you're the best!

Always working when I'm sleeping :)

And yes it worked well now...still have to figure out how I get the list into open office to get it sorted
(what db format do u use?)
but its a charm to scrape the links from the filez with notepad++

best wishes

I would have thought you just save the file as a .csv extension then import it into open office as it is a basic comma separated db file.

You may have to specify it is comma ',' separated and not tab \t separated as that may be the default for open office IIRC

thx, yes that's how I did it ... problem is it misses the commas like between Number of members/moderated or there are commas in the groupname what makes a huge list.
I'll have to clean with np++ first and put commas on the right places then it should work.

thx again for a very cool feature...
no more waiting till a site with groups opens and much more info in the db.
A real Timesaver!

...Tried a while now ...commas are a real problem
maybe its better to scrape the urls only or use * or anything else instead of commas as seperator.

Why exactly are commas a problem?

The line is formatted wrong? The program cannot read it?

I mean, the delimiter can be a comma, it is called a CSV (comma separated variable) after all.

If you have a problem file, email it to be and I can look into why it will not import into your db program

show you a typical line:
http://soundcloud.com/groups/chill-out-crowdFor those who enjoy Chillout,Ambient,Downtempo Music =)768630504false
or
http://soundcloud.com/groups/atmospheric-ambientLush Dark ambient, Soundscapes, Drones, you name it! If it's ambient music you want, it's ambient music you get!529116262false

...it separated wrong when I open in np or open office calc...
makes a new calc field for every comma in the line...maybe I'm too dumb for databases  but maybe there is a secret knob hat I missed that switched on your separations instead of the commas in the text.
