Catchall Footprint warning

Post by martin@rootjazz » Fri Aug 30, 2013 4:33 pm

If you are using a catchall for your signups, do be aware this is a footprint that *may* be detected and used to mass ban your accounts.

Please keep in mind.

A website may get 100s of signups an hour from hotmail / gmail / yahoo. But do they get hundreds of signups from
@yourdomainhere.com

No, any unknown domain starting to mass create accounts can be detected.

So take it easy, slow and steady

1 signup every hour and things will be ok?

Perhaps. but what if down the line one of your accounts is reported? All the other safe accounts are now at risk.

Do not put all your eggs in one basket. If you cannot risk all your accounts getting banned, do not put them all on the same domain.

You have been warned.
